EmpireCovers Sponsors A Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

Last month, the EmpireCovers crew was racing around in Ferarris and Lamborghinis. This month, we’re interviewing our Porsche racing driver, Tim Holt. That’s right! EmpireCovers is the official sponsor of Tim Holt Racing’s 2007 Porsche GT3 Cup.

EmpireCovers Porsche

When we arrived at Holt Motorsports, we were immersed in a sea of polished Porsches. Among the red, the white and the silver beauties, we saw a black Porsche with a need for speed and EmpireCovers written all over it, literally. After walking through the showroom, we sat down with Tim to talk racing and how he protects his assets.

Do you remember your first race?

Clearly. Yes. Absolutely! It was at Pocono Raceway. It was completely different car that was 1,200lb and 200 horsepower. I was 15 years old and a little nervous because I had just got my racing license and I was racing against guys that were 35. I thought I wouldn’t do well at all but then I ended up winning! That’s when it all happened and the addiction started. Everything I’ve done since then has been to get more tires, racing fuel and faster cars. I remember that day clearly. It was a great day, all thanks to my dad.

What is the biggest challenge transitioning from salesman to racer?

That’s a really good question. That one is really making me think. Racing is mental and physical. I have to prepare for races physically and mentally. I usually ride my bike at least 30 miles every day and I hit the gym. I can sit in the office all day and answer calls and sell Porsches. It isn’t easy to sit in the car while you race. It’s hard physically because of the adrenaline but mentally, too. I am inches away from the guy next to me, thinking, “he better not mess up. I hope he doesn’t mess up,” then I think, “Well I better not mess up!”

How do you care for the Porsches you race?

After every race I change all the fluids, brake pads, rotors and other wear items. Every other race, I disassemble the car down to the motor and make sure everything is in spec and it working correctly. This is all done with the help of Holt Motorsports, Dawe’s Motorsports Devlopment and of course, EmpireCovers!

IMG_0026What is your favorite part about your EmpireCovers’ car cover?

Well the best part is that is actually fits the Porsche. Some Porsches have whaletails, but the EmpireCovers’ Porsche one is bigger than that. I was hesitant that the cover would fit, but it actually fits great. I look at other Porsches I compete against, and their covers don’t look as good as mine.

There was one race, where there was a downpour. It was storming bad. When I got to the track, I figured the cover would be gone because that’s what happened with other covers I’ve used before. Not only was my cover securely on the car, my car was also completely dry. Other drivers had mildew starting to grow because their covers couldn’t handle the storm. I mean it rained hard. I was shocked that my [American Armor] cover held up.

Choosing A Waterproof Car Cover

When you think of things that damage your car, the last thing on your list is probably water. After all, you do use it to wash your car.

Exposing your car to water over a long period of time can cause irreversible damage to its exterior. Acid rain can erode your vehicle’s finish. Condensation on your car results in mold and mildew. All of which can cause your vehicle’s paint to chip and exposed metal to rust.

Simply adding a 100% waterproof car cover is a great way to prevent these effects from happening to your vehicle. It is important to do your research when looking for a waterproof cover. Many companies sell water repellent covers, which trap condensation and damage your car. To ensure the best protection for your vehicle, purchase a 100% waterproof, breathable car cover.

EmpireCovers has three 100% waterproof car covers:

American Armor: If you read our blog, or you’re an EmpireCovers’ customer, you know all about our all-American car cover. This is our top-line, all-weather protector. Its Dupont Tyvek outer layer holds up against the harshest weather conditions, and a microfiber inner layer to protect your paint job. The cover is also breathable to prevent mold and mildew growth.

Titan V 5L: This cover has five ultrasonically welded layers to ensure 100% waterproof protection. Made of waterproof Polypropylene material, this cover can withstand downpours. It is also breathable to stop mold and mildew.

Empire Waterproof Car Cover: It is all in the title. This waterproof cover’s micro-pore technology protects against rain and allows condensation to escape as evaporated gas. Most “waterproof” covers are actually water repellent. Water repellent covers stop water from entering but trap condensation, which damages your vehicle’s paint.

Choosing the right car cover for your needs is simple. Enter the make, year and model of your vehicle on our website and we’ll choose the best size. To the right of each product is a protection level scale. Consider where you live and what elements your vehicle is exposed to. You can hover your mouse over the product for more information or click on the product for full details. Once you’ve picked your favorite, simply add the item to your cart and go through EmpireCovers’ fast, easy checkout.

3 Tips To Get Tree Sap Off Of Your Car

Removing tree sap from your vehicle can be a pain. It is sticky and removal risks damaging your car’s paint. Don’t let your car fall victim to Mother Nature!

There are many steps that can be taken to prevent tree sap damage, such as buying an EmpireCovers car cover, not parking your car under a tree or living in a place that doesn’t have all four seasons. If your car has already been exposed to tree sap, here are some tips to get the tree sap off your car:

1. Nail polish remover. Generously apply nail polish remover on a cotton ball and wipe it on the sap. Once the sap is removed, wash the area with a mixture of baking soda and water.

2. Bacon Grease. Make delicious bacon for breakfast, or dinner. Once it has cooled down and your finished eating, take the leftover bacon grease and apply it directly on the sap. Let it sit until you notice the tree sap dissolving. After you notice the tree sap dissolving, rub off the rest of the sap.

3. Car cleaning products. There are plenty of tree sap remover products on the market. Search Google or your local automotive supply store for the best products for removal.

Some of these suggestions may work better than others. Prevention is the best option. The damage tree sap can do to your car is huge compared to the cost of an EmpireCovers car cover. Choosing the car cover that will provide the best protection for you depends on where you live, where you park and what you want to protect against.

Carport Kit Dimensions for Campers and RVs

Purchasing a carport for a camper is a great way to store your RV in the off-season. EmpireCovers carports offer superior protection and are more affordable than a garage or permanent metal structure. The size of your RV and area you live help determine which carport kit is right for you.

EmpireCovers has three unique carports sizes to fit Class A RVs, Class B RVs, Class C RVs, camper trailers and folding campers. These large carports can also be used to store multiple smaller vehicles. Below are the camper carport kit dimensions:

Small Camper Carport Kit

Measuring at 12’W x 24’L x 10’H, this EmpireCovers carport is great for Class B RVs, small trailers, toy haulers and foldup campers. Its steel frame is made from a 9 oz. polyethylene fabric that is water and UV resistant. It can also provide storage from vehicles, motorcycles, tractors, equestrian needs and more.

Class B RV Carport Kit

This carport’s dimensions are 12’W x 28’L x 10’H. This RV port fits Class B RVs, camper trailers and folding campers. It is made from the same fabric as the small camper carport kit. Like all EmpireCovers RV carports, this shelter is made for maximum strength, rust deterrence and zippered panels for easy accessibility.

Class A & C RVs Carport Kit

EmpireCovers largest carport measures 14’W x 36’L x 12’H. This carport is perfect for Class A & C RVs or multiple vehicles. It is made from 10.3 oz. polyethylene fabric and galvanized steel for guaranteed year round protection. This shelter also includes two zippered 10’6” W front and rear door entry.

After you’ve decided which carport kit dimension is right for you, it is important to choose a peak or round frame top. The peak carport frame is best for areas that receive a lot of rain. The round carport frame is great for snowy weather conditions and larger vehicles and equipment.

The EmpireCovers Team Drive A Ferrari & Lamborghini in Philadelphia

Car covers aren’t the first things you think of when you hear the word “luxury.” How about Lamborghini? Ferrari? Well the EmpireCovers team got a chance to drive these lavish cars.

EmpireCovers CEO, Jake Goldblum, was practically speechless after driving the red Ferrari F430 Spyder. When asked about his experience, his only words were, “That was awesome! Cowabunga!”

Robert Brous, SEM and Business Development Specialist, and Scott Shemtov, eCommerce Web Analytics Specialist, also filled their need for speed driving the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and Ferrari, respectively. Our adrenaline was pumping and we all joked about who was the best driver. From the straightaways to the curves, we all had a great time.

Screen shot 2013-08-27 at 9.14.24 AM
After my turn behind the wheel of the Lamborghini, I got a chance to talk to the Gotham Dream Cars manager, Mike Pytlar, who confirmed I was the best driver of the group. Okay, he didn’t say that but I know he was thinking it.  He did have some great answers to my questions.

This isn’t necessarily a question but I wanted to thank you for having cars with an automatic transmission. I can’t drive a stick shift, so I was a little said when I thought I wouldn’t be able to drive a Lamborghini. Do you get that a lot?

Well, none of our cars are stick. A lot of people who come in here can drive a stick, but not a Ferrari stick shift. It’s different driving down the highway at a normal speed than driving in a racecourse at a high speed. So to answer your question, yes. We do get a lot of people in here who cannot drive a stick on these cars.

We see that Gotham Dream Cars rent your luxury cars for weddings, anniversary presents and other events. Has there been an outrageous request or unique occasion that someone rented a car for?

That depends on your definition of outrageous. We did have a client who rented one of our cars for one week. He drove it from New York to California and back. Just the rental cost him $65,000. I bet he had a great trip though!

One of our favorite things about Gotham Dream Cars is that you make driving a luxury car affordable to the general public. EmpireCovers was built to make protecting your assets inexpensive. How do you protect your vehicles?

We store them in the trailer when we’re traveling. As soon as a car is back at the warehouse, it is detailed. Whether it is rented, drove in the Dream Car Sprint or tour, it is detailed. We like to keep our cars are clean and maintained as possible.

EmpireCovers Highlights On This Day In 1959

On August 26, 1959, British Motor Corporation (BMC) introduced the Mark I Mini. This small car can with an even smaller price tag – $800, making it one of the best selling British cars.

The Mark I Mini was three years in the making. In 1956, in the mist of fuel shortages and gasoline rationing, Sir Leonard Lord, head of BMC, began looking for British alternatives to the compact, fuel-efficient German cars on the market. Those involved in creating and designing the Mini were sworn to secrecy. It took less than three years to make the Mini and on August 26, 1959, the Mark I Mini was on the market.

The Mini was marketed as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor; the only difference between the two was the radiator grille. By 1962, they were both known was the Mini. While it was small and fuel-efficient, the Mini comfortably sat 4 adults. Its “mini” price tag made it a popular car. Londoners also purchased the Mini as a second car because it was easy to drive through the city’s congested roads.

Production of the Mini stopped in 2000. Over 5 million Minis were produced since its start. Whether your Mini is new or old, EmpireCovers wants you to Protect Your Assets. We’ve got a variety of covers to keep your Mini protected for years to come. Find the EmpireCovers Mini car cover that is right for you.

7 Reasons Why You Need A Car Cover

Protection doesn’t have to be scary. Being unprotected is reckless and can result in unsolicited financial and physical damage, to your car.

There are countless threats that your vehicle is exposed to on a daily basis.

Whether you have a “soccer mom” van or have a classic car, it’s important to protect your assets. We’ve done our research and picked the top 7 hazards to your car that can be protected with an EmpireCovers car cover.

1. Cats

The Internet and some feline obsessed, single women love cats. Your car, however, does not love cats. They can be cute and cuddly but their nails aren’t. Cats can cause your car’s paint to scratch and chip. Me-ouch… EmpireCovers car covers come with a nonabrasive inner lining to deter these pesky kittens.

2. Water / Rain / Snow

We have to include some “boring” elements that you need to protect your vehicle from. Exposure to rain and snow causes your car to rust. Rust isn’t the new red. It looks terrible on cars. Some “waterproof” car covers result in mildew and mold on your car. EmpireCovers’ car covers are 100% waterproof and breathable to prevent this sticky situation.

3. Burglars

Car thieves are a huge problem. Not only do they steal your belongings inside of your vehicle. They smash your windows, punch a hole under the door handle and go to other extremes to get inside. Getting a car cover, not only deters thieves, it is cheaper than your deductible in case of a robbery.

4. The Sun / UV Rays

UV rays aren’t good for your skin or your car. Rays from the sun cause oxidation and premature fading on your car’s paint. The heat causes your car to extremely hot inside and tarnishes its interior. Choosing a sunproof car cover protects your car’s paint and even keeps the interior temperature cool.

5. Children

If you’re a parent, and even if you’re not, you know that children are adventure creatures. They tend to ride their bikes too close to cars. They like to touch just about everything and they somehow always end up playing with a ball by your car. Although it isn’t intentional, children can cause you car (and wallet). A 5 layer car cover may provide the extra protection you need.

6. Dirt / Dust / Debris

Fall is a beautiful time. The leaves are turning and gracefully falling to the ground. While the scenery is beautiful, the damage to your car isn’t. Leaves contain sap, pollen and other acidic elements that diminish your car’s paint. Another threat to your car is dust. Even if your car is parked in a garage, it is exposed to dust. Exposure to dust can result to scratches and chips in your car’s paint. Debris is unable to break through an EmpireCovers car cover, “leaving” your car unharmed.

7. Bird Droppings and Other Unmentionables

We’ve all been there. You park your newly washed car and a bird finds its next target. The next thing you know, your car is covered in bird poop. Another scenario. You’re tailgating and see that a drunken frat boy thinks your truck is a bathroom stall. You already know what happens next. Gross. Maybe now you’re convinced you need a waterproof car cover.

Don’t let risqué and down right dirty behavior cause irreversible damage to you, or your assets. Buying an EmpireCovers vehicle cover is an inexpensive, proactive way to guarantee protection. If your car is exposed to all of these hazards, it may be smart to pick up an all-weather car cover. Yes, we have those, too!
